Review of Land of the Lost (2009) by Joseph M — 25 Nov 2010
'Land of the Lost' stars the genius that is Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Anna Friel. However, even with these great talents, the film is a bit of a let down.
Ferrell stars as Dr. Rick Marshall, a failed scientist who discovers a way to open a portal to another dimension which he, his assistant Holly (Friel) and the random Will (McBride) end up getting lost in.
Cue dinosaurs, lizard-men and giant blood sucking bugs.
The story? An alien scientist, also trapped in this dimension, fears the universe will be destroyed and only Dr. rick Marshall can save the day.
The result? 'Land of the Lost' tries it's best to be funny, but with a film so relying on special effects, cool locations and an actual storyline that needs to be kept in order, the comedy is a bit of a let down. Ferrell and McBride do their best to hit the jokes but are not allowed to shine as they do in most of their films. Plus Friel seems very wooden and slightly annoying.
The result is an enjoyable watch, but a bit of a let down if you are expecting Ferrell's usually high standards.
