Review of Land of the Lost (2009) by Thomas G — 18 Apr 2011
The worst television adaptation ever made, The Land of the Lost is based on the television show in the 70s. However, it is done as a comedy with Will Ferrell and Danny McBride, both playing the same characters and doing their same shtick that they play in every other film. The jokes usually fall flat for a comedy and it should've been the story of the television show. I could tell they were not trying because the entrance to the Land of the Lost happens to be a water ride in the middle of a half-ass half-built carnival that is ran by a redneck gift shop owner. The effects are okay. However, this is obviously not supposed to be an FX film. However, when they have to do effects out side of CGI, they are terrible. For example, there is a scene where you see the background and you notice "is there supposed to be a volcano there?"... And it is the worst matte painting of all time. It looked like a child's water-color painting. The sleestaks look awful. However, they were able to do two things that they couldn't do in the show;.
1-they blink.
2-they are able to have CG teeth come out of their mouths that look pretty cool.
The only CG effect that looked bad was the scene where a pteradactyl flies over the three characters. It looks like the effects in Birdemic. It is good to rent because then you could fast-forward to cool scenes. It is bad, but it is laughably bad. It is bad like Jurassic Park 3 was bad.
