Review of Land of the Lost (2009) by Reece J — 30 Dec 2012
Another one that Anna Friel would probably like to bury under her patio in Liverpool, this is a truly ghastly movie in every sense. All the acting, with exception of Ms Friel's is completely insipid and lacking conviction and a plot lamer than a three legged donkey.
This is a spoof send up of a 1970s American TV show and it just doesn't work. Will Ferrell is atrocious as the lead, a man so stupid that it defies belief. I simply can't imagine he was actually paid for this performance as he is not even remotely funny as he delivers lines that wouldn't even be considered funny in the weird parallel universe that the film is set in.
The story makes no sense at all and imparts no feelings of peril whatsoever, even when the cast are being chased by a Tyrannosaurus. There's a troop of alien lizards who do nothing at all and a tribe of apemen who look like they've escaped from the Muppet Show.
This has the feeling of a movie made by a second rate cable TV network and is one that should have gone straight to DVD, probably in the bargain bin.
