Review of Land of the Dead (2005) by Kyle N — 31 Mar 2011
George A. Romero's Land of the Dead, his first Dead film in years since Day of the Dead. Now I haven't seen many of Romero's Dead films, only Night, Land, and Diary, so I can only judge the movie based on those three films.
The basic plot of the film is that the Dead are beginning to evolve. They learn how to use guns, as well as other weapons to bring down the human race. I have to admit, that idea is stupid, the Dead shouldn't be able to learn, so in order for this film to work, the rest of the film would have to be brilliant. Well, it wasn't.
Now I'm not saying there weren't some cool death scenes, and the dead looked just as cool as they ever did and will look, but for me, the premise killed this movie. It was stupid, boring, and just couldn't hold my attention, if your a hard core fan of the Romero Dead films, you'll probably like this.
From what I heard, the next film, Diary of the Dead, rebooted the franchise, so why didn't they just do that with this film, it would've made more sense to reboot the franchise after coming back after nearly 20 years, then just made a whole new trilogy.
