Review of Land of the Dead (2005) by Andrew C — 11 Nov 2009
Entertaining. Not Romero's best movie. Plagued with cliches. Some good effects.
Remeber Bub? This is the logical conclusion of that story line from Day of the Dead. I don't think it is very well done here. The zombies seem too comical. I understand that Romero is trying to garner sympathy for the zombies but he tried too hard.
The movie would have benefited from some explanation of the zombies sudden sentience [which felt to me a lot like an excuse to update his own zombies to the 28 days model] or at least a believable character to care and root for.
Entertainingly gory. A little too long. Mixed messages muddle the plot and leave you wondering: Who am I supposed to care about?
