Review of Lakshya (2004) by Sophia Q — 22 Nov 2009
When this movie first released, I watched it.....and hated it. I had some friends who loved it and I usually agreed with their opinions on films, but this was one I didn't enjoy. Anyways, 5 years later and I saw the movie was airing on TV, so I decided to give it another chance. Maybe I was wrong. No. I was not wrong. This movie is flawed in one MAJOR way: It's boring. That's it. There's no other reason. The portions that are not Army related (which are small in number) are entertaining to watch, but the rest is tedious! Preity Zinta's character is midly unlikable in the way that she calls "Karan" confused.....but she's even more confused, nor is she capable of committing to anyone. She's not a "realistic" girl, though they tried to portray her that way. Hrithik Roshan's character IS likable, but he's thrown into this situation and the explanation as to why he suddenly wants to be in the army wholeheartedly is never clear. One minute, he wants to leave, some people get upset with him and then he's back full-force. It's a bit much to take in. Really.....a waste of time re-watching this.
I am all for realistic, deep, multi-layered cinema. I love art films. I love serious movies with a great message. This is not that. It's just boring cinema.
