Review of Lakeview Terrace (2008) by Rocknblues 8 — 12 Dec 2009
Tired and predictable potboiler that is flat out laughable at times. Sam hams it up like he always does, Kerry Washington stands around looking hot and Patrick Wilson gives a stale and boring performance. Every point that Neil Labute tries to make is overshadowed by the predicable and safe feel of the movie. Every quarrel had here seems cartoonish and it's hard to believe the director thought the audience would be able to take this as serious as he intended it to be.
Movies like this and Snakes on a Plane shows that Samuel Jackson is clearly a paycheck actor at this point and time. He really is the one that disappointments me. He is capable of giving an earnest performance like he gave in Eve's Bayou and Black Snake Moan. I know he can see through this mediocre material, so it's obvious that he just doesn't care. I've lost all hope in him.
