Review of Lake Placid (1999) by Sean L — 26 Feb 2009
When I see the negative response to movies like this I just get confused. It isn't Jaws, but that's a statement which applies to almost every movie ever made. The characters in this movie are all endearing in some sort of way, and their dialogue is enjoyable, which is important since the effects don't really hold up.
Steve Miner directs with a cool sense of humor and horror and several scenes in this movie are genuinely scary. Maybe I'm biased because of my fears of large bodies of natural water, but I think the crocodile in this movie is a worthy monster.
The movie is just a lot of fun without being stupid. I literally cannot understand how anyone could disagree.
