Review of Lake of Fire (2006) by Gerald H — 12 Apr 2008
The more I watched this movie, the more and more frustrated I got. While this movie does show both sides of the issue of abortion, it shows (for the most part) only the extremes. There was almost nothing in this movie that I could relate to!
What got me most in this movie was the portrayal of pro-lifers. I have yet to meet one pro-lifer who is ANYTHING like the extremists here. I have picketed abortion clinics before, and almost everyone present was very respectful and prayerful. The counselors were actually there to offer advice. There are millions of pro-lifers who are willing to provide meaningful help and counsel to those overwhelmed with the prospect of having a baby. There is almost no portrayal of compassionate pro-lifers.
The pro-life movement is not one of manipulation or of keeping women down. It's about compassion and love. There is no choice when it comes to human life - the choice (except in cases of rape) is to have sex or not have sex.
There is a "grey area" for this issue too - it doesn't have to be black and white. I believe that MOST people who are pro-choice want to see the number of abortions decrease and ideally not exist at all. What we really need is adequate sex education with an emphasis on safe sex practices (with abstinence highly stressed as being the only 100% true safe sex). Also, more funding for strengthening families (especially keeping fathers in the picture), and more services for women who are pregnant.
And before anyone comments to blast me on being some kind of wacked-out conservative for being pro-life, let me say that I'm a staunch liberal. Pro-life isn't just about abortion...it's also about capital punishment, war, government sponsored torture, etc.
