Review of Lakay (2014) by Milaure F — 17 Oct 2014
My girlfriend and I just watched the documentary entitled Lakay, a film following two brothers who fly to Haiti in search of family members after the devastating earthquake that hit the island in 2010.
The film pulls at your heart strings, is raw at time, poignant, heart wrenching even, yet is full of hope and dreams for a nation that has suffered so many ills over the past few decades. Yes, it is two brothers' quest for loved ones, but it is so relatable to all Haitian Americans living abroad, with memories of Haiti, friends, family members we all wish we too, could find.
By the end of the documentary, we somehow felt so close to the brothers. We understood so deeply what they were looking for, themselves... And they succeeded! A must see. Oscar worthy film.
