Review of Laid to Rest (2009) by Richard A — 30 Apr 2009

Its great to see the slasher genre alive and well plus its great to finally see a half decent American slasher film for once (so I don't need to go to the French for my celluloid dose of gore). All of this being said Laid To Rest is not a great film, its actually pretty bad especially the acting and plot, it sucks to put it lightly and is almost non-existant.

We get an attractive young lady who wakes up in a coffin at a funeral home (ran by no other than the infamous genre actor Richard Lynch in a teeny weenie role) in some small town. The gal doesn't know who she is or how she got there until the latter question is answered for her quite quickly. An absolute psycho hellbent on torturing and killing women has brought her there and has set up shop in the small town funeral home brutally slicing and dicing victims at will.

Laid To Rest goes for extreme graphic gore effects and style waaaaaaay over substance and it shows in spades! The killer is this cold metal face plated dude who has a perversion for taping his crimes with a shoulder hoisted cam-corder. This heartless maniac graphically cuts, hacks, severs and splits anyone in his way in some of the most realistic and gruesome knife gore I've ever witnessed on film , all in close-up detail, its very sick shit indeed, I couldn't believe my eyes.

Laid To Rest is not a great movie, not even remotely good but it kept me watching and to be honest I'd watch a sequel just for the gore and the killer, this is the future of slasher films. If you can get past the dumb plot and cardboard acting you'll like the film, slasher fans should anyways, its better than bringing back Jason Voorhee's in another bullshit movie trudging along in his usual demeanor.
