Review of Laggies (2014) by Tierney W — 08 Jan 2015
Maybe it's because Keira Knightley's over-educated and directionless Megan is, in "Laggies", going through exactly what I am right now; maybe it's because Sam Rockwell as a kind and deeply good (but still Sam Rockwellian) divorced single dad was a performance I didn't know I wanted but was deeply moved and delighted by; maybe it was because Lynn Shelton's take on mumblecore (Your Sister's Sister, Touchy Feely) always resonates with me; whatever the reason(s), I loved the shit out of this movie.
Sure, some of the plot contrivances were just slightly off, but in the service of the overall themes I understand why they were there even as I cringed a little at the slightly awkward execution.
