Other than the cricket aspect, it is a scene to scene (and song-to-song) remake of Naya Daur, but the director manages to pull it off big time by adding two of the most appealing ingredients for the masses: cricket and colonialism.
..The result: one of the two Indian films to be nominated for the Best Foreign Film at the Oscars...
