Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Marcus W — 01 Apr 2009
I am not for a second going to deny that this is a beautiful film and a masterpiece of directing...however it also reminds me of a spoilt little kid with a magnifying glass standing over an ant hill. I get the story and why she would want revenge but there's a harshness and a brutality to this film which is unnecessary.
For instance, she has a special gun made (which still just fires bullets in a straight line away from her like any other gun), then tests that it works by shooting the puppy she's just bought her daughter, the same daughter she's just been reunited with after 13 years.
She couldn't have just shot at a tree or something? Subsequently, when she got the shit kicked out of her in the next scene I couldn't care less. And it continues like that: gorgeous cinematography/overly sadistic violence.
..a lot like Eli Roth only less playful.
