Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Jamie C — 19 Apr 2009
A startling, dazzling, vivid work, South Korean director Park Chan-Wook's final installment in his 'Vengeance' trilogy has all his hallmarks - unorthodox framing, brutal beauty, elegant camerawork and an exquisite classical music score.
Telling his story in his usual measured, stylish way, Park's film is, however, not the masterpiece that the first in the trilogy "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" is, nor does it boast the intensity of its follow-up, "Oldboy".
However, this is potent cinema, as unpredictable as it is beautiful, as brutal as it is gentle and far from the madding Hollywood crowd.
