Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Adam M — 13 Jul 2009
A fantastic tale of revenge and vengeance on what appears to be a grand scale. Bloody in the end and violent throughout this film entices a sense of planned serenity that the others in the trilogy seem to lack.
I found the film truly haunting and mesmerising at the same time. The tale of vengeance had me hooked from the start but the cinematography and wonder within the film show many levels of complexity.
The main character although a young and innocent person was forced into the creation of herself into a monster without any hope of ever being understood. The creation of the revenge could have only come from a person who had nothing to loose and everything to gain.
In the end I paid more attention to the reactions of the other more human characters in the film and how they dealt with the hands given to them. Their responses were well gauged and well written which adds to films sense of solidarity which is missing from most of the films in this gritty genre.
A poetic film from start to finish on the scale of great ideas and a wonderful soundtrack make this one of the most memorable foreign films I have ever seen.
