Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Patrick H — 28 Jul 2009
Pretty awesome concluding film in Chan-wook Park's Vengeance Trilogy, out of Korea. In comparing it to the others (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy), I would place this in the middle in terms of my overall opinion.
Oldboy was somewhat of a masterpiece for me because of its dark plot, sadistic twisting, and masterfully choreographed scenes. As dark as this particular installment is, it has elements of a fairy tale, and there is a sense of redemption in this film which is lacking in the utter bleakness of the other, prior ones.
