Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Aren B — 15 Dec 2010
This final entry in Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy is as difficult and troubling as its predecessor. Park's exploration of vengeance and human vice is unflinching, and "Lady Vengeance" is brutally honest for a film so concerned with style.
Still, "Lady Vengeance" lacks the boldness of "Oldboy," and while it remains a compelling work by a fascinating visual artist, it occasionally seems more muddled than brilliant, as if Park's obsession with vengeance was getting a little out of control as his trilogy came to an end.
