Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Brian S — 26 Aug 2012
Rounding out Chan Wook Park's "Revenge Trilogy" is Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, a good film but with some flaws. Like in his previous film's, Park's direction and staging is top-notch and I like his transitions with his match on actions, but the story is the most important thing and it comes off a little flat.
Instead of a one-two punch, the film relies on a haymaker and although I did like the intention, it just wasn't enough for me (especially after the kinetic Oldboy). It is a slower paced movie that bring up some great questions about the meaning of justice and revenge, but there is just a little too much exposition.
It is said misery loves company and with Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, the stay may leave you a tad cold.
