Review of Lady Snowblood 2: Love Song of Vengeance (1974) by James H — 06 Jan 2008
This weaker second installment/conclusion forces Yuki (Lady Snowblood) to play a passive observer who watches anarchist groups battle corrupt political regimes via their secret police. Fujita's film develops the dilemma of life after vengeance, and does a good job of establishing that a character born out of revenge can still find purpose by slicing and dicing on the behalf of another's grudge.
This character study, though, is too oft a sub plot, ridding of the emotional intensity necessary for an adequate sequel.
