Review of Lady Macbeth (2016) by Jon C — 25 Aug 2017
A sinister tale of sex, murder and a psychotic version of defying social class.
Florence Pugh plays Katherine in rural England 1895; she is sold into marriage and forced into a lifestyle that does not suit her well-being.
Her husband is abusive as well as her father-in-law being overly-critical and judgmental as to what her role as a wife should be.
This film is all kinds of messed up when the dead bodies start piling up next to the forbidden romance and the constant lies and deceit.
I actually turned away more than a few times because of how demented it got.
A short running time with almost no music gets by with a dark, unsettling tone and a gothic feel to it all.
This title character is no mere lady that's for certain.
Like something Hitchcock would conjure up in the olden days.
