Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Cj O — 12 Aug 2014
If you expect a horror movie from this, that's just what the trailer wants you to think. This movie's only PG-13 for some gore-less scary elements. On one hand, Lady in the Water did have a kind of good story, one that kids could enjoy.
The girl who played Story was a good actress. The thing with Paul Giamatti's family issues was an OK add-on. The parts that were supposed to be scary WERE scary. The camera angling was 7.5 out of 10.
And some parts were REALLY funny, especially the last part with the arrogant film critic! But the movie had hardly any suspense; Shyamalan character was pointless and unneeded; the movie didn't explain enough; only ONE of the many plot twists was good and unpredictable; there were hokey elements; and the thing with staring into the monster's eyes so that it stays still was probably just Shyamalan's excuse for not being able to come up with a good battle scene.
I liked the movie, though. It's an OK family movie with no language or blood.
