Review of Lady in the Water (2006) by Stephen B — 21 Dec 2009
Some of Shyamalan's films manage to be atmospheric and unspecific enough, as to give an impression that they may have some intention behind them OTHER than mere spooky, keep-em-guessing entertainment.
This is not one of those films. In fact, there is so little hope of that here, that remembering films like "The Village" or "The Happening" with this film in mind, makes it rather obvious just how purposeless all that atmosphere has really been thus far.
Too bad. M. Night may not win any acting awards anytime soon, but (judging by his better films) if he had something genuine to share as a director, he does have the skillset to make a go of it.
