Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Facebook U — 24 Jan 2018
It treads over quite a lot of familiar, coming-of-age film territory, and the editing had a couple rough moments. Not to mention that it runs around ten minutes too long, despite only being an hour and a half.
But 'Lady Bird' manages to stay funny throughout, and it offers a perspective not usually seen in the over-populated coming-of-age genre, in the specially unique protagonist. Lady Bird is the character's name, and she's someone I really believe could only come from the writing of Greta Gerwig.
As a director, I think Gerwig still needs to find a permanent spot to plant her feet. But she knows exactly what she's doing when it comes to creating characters and original scenerios. The performances were great, the cinematography and score fit well, and I can't wait for my second viewing.
