Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Katherine C — 29 Jan 2018
Ronan and Metcalfe definitely earned their acting nominations, and the story was deeply touching and relatable while being quite funny. The screenplay didn't feel particularly original to me, but it is the best version of the movies it reminds me of. The editing shined at times, but the first act felt rushed. Considering the movie could have easily been thirty minutes longer, that was an issue for me.
The acting and story win out here as none of the technical aspects were amazing. I highly recommend it, though I am biased towards coming-of-age films.
