Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Compi24 — 19 Dec 2017
As far as directorial debuts go, "Lady Bird" is about as close to as good as it can possibly get for writer/director Greta Gerwig. This quaint, little dramedy has an incredibly unique voice in the form of a supremely well-written screenplay and an unquestionably gifted cast.
And the slice-of-life style of storytelling really adds to the down-to-earth, character-driven feel emanated by the film from scene to scene. Gerwig's semi-autobiographical take on the classic coming-of-age formula is both so incredibly relatable and game-changingly fresh at the same time that I wouldn't be surprised if the film is already influencing young filmmakers right now.
This is tremendously strong filmmaking here and I can't wait to see Gerwig's follow-up.
