This was the worst movie I have seen in a long time. To those saying it contained warm, light-hearted humor...clearly we didn't see the same movie. It was dark and long..I kept waiting for something redeeming to happen.
Watching Laurie Metcalf berate her teenage daughter in one scene and then ignore her daughter's request to "please, Mom...just talk to me." Is not enjoyable to watch. To put this into perspective, consider the similarities in plot and characters of John Hughs Pretty in Pink.
..with the cute girl from the wrong side of the tracks, wishing she was one of the 'richies' and deciding what she's going to do with her life. That movie was a joy to watch, unlike the uncomfortable feeling of this flick.
