Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Joshua M — 08 Mar 2018
When I heard all the raving and acclaim this film got, I knew it must have been something special. I mean, so many folks would not get behind something that wasn't less than incredible, right? Well, I guess it depends on a person's preferences, but I didn't get as much out of this as most others have.
The performances are impeccable, especially Saiorse Ronan in the title role, and the relationship between her and her mother (played by Laurie Metcalf) was touching in parts; however, for me, it was just a glossier version of yet another coming-of-age story when those have been more or less done to death.
I did not see anything in this one that really made it stand out to me compared to others such as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" or "Stand by Me." I just think the hype killed it for me, unfortunately.
