Review of Ladies in Lavender (2004) by Daniel K — 19 Sep 2007
The kind of film that makes me proud that my ancestors are English, Welsh, and Scottish. I'm consistently astounded at how much better British film and television is than American (in general of course).
Judi Dench is astounding and Maggie Smith is wonderful as well. Bruhl and McElhone are great as always too. The film woud be even better if the director had the good taste not to do the typical shoddy flashback sequence in the closing concert scene.
It's when you show do the opposite and concentrate on the wonderful performances shown on Dench's and Smith's faces as well as the Joshua Bell solo as portrayed by Bruhl.
