Review of Ladies in Lavender (2004) by Radhika N — 15 Mar 2008
This movie has some unique strengths. It shows how a woman who is at an age when society wants her to feel only maternal love for a younger man can still struggle with feelings of carnal love. It showcases rural Cornwall amazingly. It captures the psychological nuances of two women of an older age living together beautifully.
However, the movie weakens by focusing on character study at the expense of building a plausible background for the male protagonist. His existence beyond the lives of the sisters seems too vague and full of holes. This weakens what otherwise seems like a realistic film.
