Review of Labyrinth (2012) by Shawna L — 21 Jan 2012
It's a classic, a cult classic to many, and a definite "oldie but goodie." Kids today may not appreciate the special effects and puppeteer mastery, ahead if its time back then but archaic compared to current technological advances in CG cinema--or is it? Back then, when the beloved, ingenious Jim Henson was alive and thriving, Labyrinth combined his passion with that of the incomparable David Bowie; a very young, talented Jennifer Connerly; and a crew of the most fantastic puppets with their world-class masters of puppets.
Although having him sing every single song on the bloody soundtrack is a bit much, it is cool to see and hear Bowie as the Goblin King in such a silly, magical story. It's easy for those of us who saw it as children to enjoy it as adults, but hopefully little ones of today, despite their hifi world of FX, can still delight in the joyful magic of music and muppets.
