Review of Labyrinth (2012) by Jon P — 22 Jun 2014
Thanks to incredible creature design, awesome animatronics and (presumably for David Bowie) crippling codpieces, Jim Henson's revered children's adventure is in-your-face fantasy at its finest.
Sure, between outbursts into song, questionable character motivations and what-just-happened moments, it's narratively arbitrary and demands total suspension of disbelief, but this wistful whimsy is precisely what fantasy is about and, regardless of age and patience, it's difficult not to be seduced by its child-friendly charm.
A true genre classic with an SFX-induced air of nostalgia.
