Review of Labyrinth (2003) by Dion D — 29 Aug 2016
An apology of sorts for The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth is a kind of hybrid of Alice in Wonderland, M.C. Escher and countless fairy tale tropes. The major issues are an unlikable protagonist and lapses into silliness in the third act that completely undermine the drama.
But it's still a fun film with great moments and an iconic performance by David Bowie. Notable for the involvement of George Lucas, Labyrinth offers a preview of the flaws that were to plague the Star Wars prequels.
