Review of Labor Day (2013) by Sean G — 03 Aug 2014
I found a heartwarming sweetness in a coming of age tale when I read the book; sadly, such elements rarely translate from the page to screen. Yet, the shortcomings of Labor Day do not lie solely in the hands of the writer.
.. I question the director, too. So many illogical choices ultimately distracted from the story, turning it into a schizophrenic mess of a wannabe thriller and heartbreaking romance. Nevertheless, although they couldn't save it, the performances were strong.
3 stars.
