Review of Labor Day (2013) by Ba S — 06 Feb 2014
This love story is a bit different. Despressed widow Adele finds the strength to go out with her son to the grocery store, when they are taken hostage by an escaped convict. It turns out the man isn't as dangerous as the media portrays, and Adele and her son Henry start to fall for him. The convict Frank becomes a father figure for Henry, and Adele slowly falls for him over the course of a Labor Day weekend.
The performances are what really keep this movie going. The pacing is really slow, not really in any hurry to get to a desperate conclusion. Something I noticed is that there was a big emphasis on food, and they made it look so delicious. One cannot watch this movie and walk away not hungry.
The movie itself isn't a classic by any means, but it does sport some solid chemistry between the players and if you're a fan of them, then this film is for you.
