Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Robert C — 03 Jul 2009
SPOILER ALERT...
Although Edith Piaf's life is full of tragedy and she is the epitome of eccentricity, the director triumphs in transcending the main theme of the whole movie. The sequence where Edith is being interviewed, slumbook style, on a beach sums it all up. Her love for music, Marcel, her dad, and the people around her was unrelenting no matter how odd she showed it.
I was expecting a barrage of songs in every scene, but the timing and distribution of the musical score were perfect.
As with other film bios, the flashbacks became distracting for a bit as it appeared as a hodgepodge of several points of view of different biographers.
I enjoyed the film, although it took me 2 years before I finally rented it.
