Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Emma R — 28 Mar 2009
Marion Cottilard's performance as Edith Piaf is outstanding and she was clearly a worthy Oscar winner. I knew nothing of Edith Piaf's life before seeing this film and it is quite shocking to see how many tragedies she faced in her life. The way the film is presented, in a series of flashbacks, does make piecing the story together a little difficult but the acting is brilliant throughout.
Cottilard leaves the viewer with mixed emotions, it seems clear that Piaf was not perhaps a particulatly likable or tolerant character and she was clearly very aware of her own talent, but considering the adversities she faced, perhaps that is unsurprising. What an amazing life story.
