Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by James D — 11 Jan 2010
This film is all over the place & misses loads out - for instance WWII anyone?!
I actually fell asleep for 15 minutes at one point (maybe that's where they slipped the war in!).
The film has a timeline that is impossible to follow, as it not only flashes continually between her last days & the rest of her life, but does so in such a non-linear fashion that it leaves you not knowing who or what the hell is happening.
The 3 stars are for Marion Cotillard's performance (and I would reccomend the film on that performance alone) - The last time I saw an actor pull off such a successful, powerful charting of 30 years of a persons life was Whoopie Goldberg in The Colour Purple.
Actually, now I've said that, I realise I felt the same about that movie too.
