Review of La Vie en Rose (2007) by Dan B — 17 Jan 2010
Cotillardâ??s Oscar winning performance is outstanding, but overall the film suffers from the same problem as most biopics : lives are shapeless and episodic and while that of Piaf has attained almost mythic status it doesnâ??t really suit a 2 hour feature .
(Thereâ??s a montage near the end that looks like an attempt to quickly cram in all the bits that didnâ??t quite fit in earlier.) Perhaps a mini-series would have served the story better; or, given the amount of footage of Piaf that exists, the best vehicle may well remain a documentary.
