Review of L.A. Story (1991) by Lysann B — 08 Mar 2011
When your boyfriend decides to go to a party without you and you are left alone for the evening, you have two choices of movies: first you can pick "Fatal Attraction" and see where it goes from there, or you choose "L.
A. Story" and hope for some laughs. I choose L.A. Story written by Steve Martin and conveniently enough he plays the "wacky Weatherman" Harris K. Telemacher himself. The film starts strong with a mocking view on L.
A. life in the 90's and reminds me with its attitude of "Death becomes her" but somehow stops in the middle and never gets it again. The cast (Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker) is well chosen and even the idea that Martin wrote the script for himself doesn't taste bitter.
In the end it is a weird and cute movie - but unfortunately not more. My view might be clouded by the fact that it is already two o'clock and I am still waiting for my boyfriend, but maybe it's because it's just an average movie.
