Review of La Orca (1976) by Anthony K — 13 Aug 2017
Snatch is hugely overrated amongst the typical dude-bro Guy Ritchie crowd, but is definitely not without its merits. Despite being a pure testosterone fantasy where a 150lb Brad Pitt can level 300lb bruisers with one punch, there are some very funny performances, particularly from the likes of Pitt and Vinnie Jones. I also always appreciate films that portray the less sophisticated sides of England - one of the few things I liked about, say, Brothers Grimsby.
But the plot is difficult to follow and ultimately inconsequential, there is some very uncool language and regressive attitudes, and frankly even ugly camera work (though with typically 'badass' Ritchie editing). It's just....fine. Not better not worse.
