Watching this for the first time in the aftermath of the August 2011 English Riots is a bizarre experience. Although the majority of what has happened today is mindless criminality, there are parallels to be drawn with the setting of La Haine in 1995 Paris, and the social inequality there.
The film does not serve as justification for rioting, but does offer a warning that hate begets hate. We reap what we sow...
