Excellent performances from an all-star cast, exhilarating epic shootouts, good comic relief and a wonderfully authentic 1950's LA setting. I love how Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce lie on opposite ends of the cop personality spectrum, and we can see the pros and cons of both, and how they ultimately have to put aside their differences and unite for the common good.
Mercilessly entertaining and absorbing. It's a shame this couldn't win best picture, there are many other years in which it would have.
