Review of L.A. Confidential (1997) by Mitch M — 17 May 2011
L.A. Confidential is the best film I have ever seen. It is my favorite film because it is impeccably scripted, brilliantly cast, and just extrememly entertaining.
Now it starts off telling us that a man is running all the crime around LA. We dont really know who he is, but he is the bad guy here. Next thing we know it is Christmas and we get introduced the the three cops. Each cop has a very different personality. Kevin Spacey places Jack. Now Jack is a high and mighty, full of himself kind of guy. He gives the publisher of Hush-Hush magazine all sorts of information in exchange for some information himself, he likes to bust people doing pot. Then we get introduced to Ed Exley and this guy is played buy Guy Pearce, a law abiding good tooshoo cop who is trying to get to the top by doing everything the right way. Then we get introduced to Bud White (Russel Crowe). This cop has anger management, and a soft spot for girls. He knows how to get his information, but not the "good way". In the good cop/bad cop senario, he is the bad cop. Now that is how the movie opens, and I cannot tell you much more about it. All I can say is that in a restaurant called The Night Owl, 6 people were murdered. That is the opening case, but is it the ending case?
Now like I said, the performances were marvelous. Even from Crowe, who I think falls short alot of times in his movies. I was really addicted to this movie when the plot began to come into place. I really didnt want it to end, and when it did I rewatched it again! There is literally no flaw. I do not normally like crime thrillers because I think they are predictable and cheesy, but this one is a masterpiece. Definatley worth watching.
LA Confidential--- 10/10.
