Review of L.A. Confidential (1997) by Steve B — 19 Mar 2011
Author James Ellroy is the best of the neo-noir writers; one who deserves a place at the table with Hammett, Chandler, Cain, and Thompson. Curtis Hanson and Brian Helgeland's adaptation of L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is a seamless piece of filmmaking which, like its source novel, evokes early 50's noir without artifice while telling a riveting story.
Despite its Oscars for adapted screenplay and supporting actress, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL may still be overlooked as one of the best American films of the past two decades. Don't miss it.
