Review of L.A. Confidential (1997) by Phillip M — 18 Jun 2011
L.A Confidential is on the same lever as Heat, and those two films could have a really good race for the best cop movie of all time, I have a feeling that this film, would win. I want to start right off with the acting.
James Cromwell, the guy is a fantastic actor, he truly is one of the most underrated of our time, I recognized him as soon as I saw him, I first noticed him in The Green Mile which he was also incredible in.
Kevin Space is highly rated but man can he act, it took me a while to realize this and I was sort of on the fence but after seeing him in this film my opinion is confirmed, Kevin Space can really act.
Guy Pearce is also an underrated actor, first noticed him in The Count of Monte Cristo and I was impressed by his ability to take on different roles and play the parts with ease, he plays "the new guy" to perfection, not necessarily a new guy just a guy that's brought into a new situation.
And then there's Russell Crowe, is there anything the guy can't do? he's like Anthony Hopkins, he can play any part that he's given and he has the ability to outshine anybody however in this film he had a lot of competition.
The incredibly flawlessly beautiful Kim Bassinger is just as good as anyone else in the film, But James Cromwell wins the acting part, flawless Irish accent as well. At times I thought the film was kind of like one of those cross shouldered opposites shows, it might have gone in that direction a little to much at times, but that's not all it is.
It's about Corruption, how powerful greed is, and making the best of a situation to do what's right even though you might not like the person your doing it with, who knows? maybe a person will in the end.
watch it in black and white if you can.
