Review of L.A. Confidential (1997) by Everett J — 03 Jul 2011
Solid old fashion crime thriller set in the 50's with an outstanding cast. The cast includes Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, David Strathairn, and Danny DeVito. Just those names alone scream out "Good Movie!" This was nominated for a bunch of awards, and while it's good, I think it's a bit overrated.
Maybe if I had seen it back 1997 I would think of it as the masterpiece I've read about. It's very entertaining, and has numerous twists that will keep you guessing and glued to the screen. I love the 50's setting and the way the characters interact.
I especially enjoyed Russell Crowes performance. He really brought a rage to his character(Bud White) that I doubt another actor could have. Runs a little too long, but it's never really boring or sags too much.
If you haven't seen it, you should check it out, better than most the crime movies released the last 5 years or so.
