This is hands down my favorite movie. I don't like to give 5 star reviews because most of the time there's something about every movie that rubs me the wrong way, whether its cheesy dialogue, a severe breach of reality, pandering, or even something I quite can't put my finger on.

I'm not a film major or an expert in critical analysis, but this movie seems to be one of the few that I can't find anything wrong with. The story revolves around police corruption in the LAPD during the 1950s.

It paints a picture of a seedy Hollywood atmosphere that runs contrary to the image of LA as a place where dreams are fulfilled. The film focuses most of its character development on three police officers who go about their work in very different ways.

As the plot develops and the corruption rises to the surface, these officers are forced to take a deeper look at themselves and those around them. This movie conveys the idea is that no ideology is perfect and does so by demonstrating that sometimes, good is bad, and bad is good.
