Review of L.A. Confidential (1997) by Adrian B — 11 Feb 2011
An excellent, spellbinding corrupt film about the Los Angeles Police Force in the 1950's. A film that succeeds on many levels. Essentially, it is a police force that has been corrupt for a period of time and the cracks then begin to be noticable.
It is hard film to follow at times, so pay very close attention. The acting of the whole cast is superb. It is too bad Kim Basinger was the only winner or even nominee of the cast members. Thankfully, though, and consectively, Kevin Spacey and Russell Crowe would take Best Actor for American Beauty in 1999 and Gladiator in 2000, respectively.
The dialogue is refreshing and fascinating, and the editing is great. Fantastic film! I hopeif people around my age (early 20's) see this film, they will want to watch the great film noirs from 1940's and 1950's as well, such as "The Big Sleep" and "Double Indemnity.
