Review of La Ciénaga (2001) by Ryan M — 10 Nov 2009
Of the films I've seen which observe child behavior, few take as little recourse to narrative or aesthetic contrivance as 'La Cienaga'. The film should make an indelible impression on anyone sensitive to the uneasy resonance of Martel's filmmaking; her abstracted social spaces, hypnotic sound design, and keen sense of provincial politics are key in this regard.
Highly recommended.
